About this hike

A full day under the oldest managed forest in Africa, with juniper giants and a summit picnic.

Menagesha Suba is the oldest conserved forest on the continent, planted in the fifteenth century and still standing.

Our route traverses the whole reserve, climbing through juniper and podocarpus before opening out onto the crater rim of Mount Wechecha.

It is a long day on the feet, but the gradient is kind and the shade is constant.
